Pros

Amazing work-life balance.

Flexible hours.

Work from home.

Good location, off from downtown Toronto.

Respectable culture among people.

Cons
  • Poor salary. Band 6 with a Master's are hired at less than 65k. That is dirt low. What is more upsetting is that bonus and salary adjustments are not guaranteed. You might be a star performer with 0 bonus; there goes all your hard work.

  • Promotions are almost impossible. You spend almost 5-6 years in Band 6 even though you perform very well. That used to be only 2 years some time ago.

  • Layoffs every year. No job security. Even good people are asked to leave.

  • The PBC rating process is a pain. I hate filling those documents every mid-year and end-of-year again.

  • If IBM is going through such a rough patch, where did the money come from to pay a 3.5 million bonus to the CEO? Probably the salary saved by laying so many people off in 2014. That was questionable!!!

Advice to Management

You need to stop the discrepancies between salaries of people doing the same kind of work, and more than that, believe in your people!
