Pros

Very research-oriented.

Long-term thinking about possible technologies that may shape the future.

Open-minded about possibilities.

Grand-scale thinking encouraged.

Cons

Too slow to bring a technology to market. Some of the ideas are not well-vetted for market acceptance. The vision for the near and future market are not coordinated well with research and development activities.

Advice to Management

Should think like a startup for the near-term market opportunities. For the long-term future market opportunities, should plan for game-changing technologies, game-changing product formulations, and a supporting revenue-making ecosystem.
