Pros

Strong teamwork with knowledgeable, experienced professional peers and colleagues, good diversity, flexible working combined with a reasonable compensation package.

A diverse portfolio of products and solutions with global reach.

Cons

Regular rounds of “redundancy / resourcing actions” (even in areas of strategic growth) damage morale, creating unhealthy internal politics that diverts resources from productive client-facing engagements and activity. Too many layers of management focused on short-term 90-day targets and hype create unproductive, inward-facing workload, politics, and bureaucracy.

Advice to Management

Refocus on prior core values:

  • Adding value for the client; revenue and profit growth naturally follows.
  • Focus on reinvesting profits in new products and services versus share buybacks or prior executive incentive-driven EPS roadmaps.
  • Treat employees as genuine assets, re-embracing the original core values of Thomas J. Watson Sr. and Jr. – respect for the individual.
  • Remove three or four layers of management that damage productivity and morale, while reducing client-facing resources in multiple rounds of reductions in force.
