Interesting projects, but bureaucratic and below-average salary

Pros

Medical benefits are great. The projects that I've worked on have been engaging and interesting for the most part. Usually it's contracting work for companies outside of IBM. I have heard of some people getting stuck on projects that are not quite as glamorous, though.

Cons

Before COVID, it was mandatory to work in the office. This was frustrating because I was usually working with client teams in another state or country, meaning I traveled all the way to the office to talk on the phone all day to people who were nowhere near me.

The company is rather bureaucratic, and there are a lot of hoops and seemingly unnecessary trainings required to move up the ranks.

The pay is pretty underwhelming given the average salary for the field. This was my first major job, and I would say it's a great first job, but it feels like a stepping stone, not a destination.
