There were a total of 7 rounds.
The first round is with the hiring manager, focusing on understanding your work history and relevant experience.
The second round is outsourced to Karat. It includes 15 minutes for verbal questions and 45 minutes to code. If you solve one coding question, you are presented with the next, and so on. Aim to solve at least two. Overall, kudos to Karat for managing this round very well.
The next 5 rounds may be in a different order for you.
Troubleshooting round: You'll be given a production incident scenario and need to explain how you would troubleshoot it. This is highly relevant to your actual work, and I liked it.
Coding round: Not directly relevant, but it's conducted if you choose to move to a developer role. Friends have mentioned that SRE and Developer interviews are quite similar.
Resume deep dive: You'll need to explain everything on your resume and walk through a past project of your choice.
Architecture design: You'll be given a use case to add a new feature to an existing system and will have to design just that functionality. Maintain a mix of high-level and low-level design.
Closing round: All previous rounds are summarized.
P.S. The hiring team will brief you about all the rounds and provide resources to prepare from once you clear the Karat round.
You receive a 4 AM incident call, and this functionality is broken (bare-metal configuration). Troubleshoot it.
