Data Engineer Interview Experience - San Francisco, California

Process

A recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn and I received an interview invitation.

The first technical screen was to write SQL. It wasn't difficult.

The second round, a data modeling challenge, felt like a complete waste of my time. It consisted of two tasks: data modeling and programming.

I spent half the day completing it and was then rejected.

The hiring manager got back to me, stating I did not consider the flexibility that enables flexible data exploration. However, he did explain the flexibility he actually wanted.

There was not even clarification in the document about wanting the model to be flexible or how flexible they wanted it. They just let you make assumptions in data modeling and then reject you if your assumptions are not pleasing them.

Don't waste your time with this company.
