Engineer Interview Experience - Urbana, Illinois

September 1, 2012
Positive ExperienceNo Offer

Process

A campus-visiting recruiter gave a presentation for the RET department and collected resumes. They contacted me by phone 2-3 hours after the presentation concluded to schedule a 1:1 interview for the next day. I was rejected after the first interview. Successful candidates would have scheduled a full-day, second on-site job interview and received an offer.

Questions

Most questions about the research related to my Ph.D. in physics were like: "What have you studied?", "What is a charge density wave (CDW)?", and "How does it break the degeneracy?" I didn't express myself in a way that showed I am capable of dealing with time-pressure working conditions.
