Pros

Unbelievably deep talent pool, some incredible managers at all levels, and a results orientation.

Compensation is competitive, especially if performance-based compensation is included. Opportunity for international assignments.

Cons

The company is pretty big. Upward mobility is very limited. In many groups, significant personal sacrifice is part of the job description. As a senior manager, to survive, I spent far too much time polishing presentations (mine or my group's) and too little time developing the organization or learning the technology.

Advice to Management

Be careful with the bureaucracy—for example, focus on presentations rather than information. Also, make sure support constraints are understood before committing to new products or projects.
