Pros

The job is stable. You really have to mess up to get fired or laid off.

Cons

Don't plan on getting good raises here in manufacturing. I worked in both the engineering group and the manufacturing group, and manufacturing is by far the worst for raises.

Advice to Management

Quit locking out people for raises because they are in the top end of their pay grade. If an employee is rated as successful, it should be the manager's discretion for a raise.

I have been rated as successful for 4 years with no raise, not even a cost-of-living raise. So, in effect, I have lost money every year for the past 4 years!

You better keep up with pay or you aren't going to keep people when the economy turns back around.
