Pros

There are lots of interesting problems to work on, and someone who wants to develop new tools can work closely with many users. The library resources are very extensive and helpful in my research. It is exciting to work with the newest technology and help in developing tools that only a small number of people in the world get to work with.

Cons

There is a lot of bureaucracy and many silly training classes to take. It can be difficult to find others in the company who do similar work to yours (for example, to find collaborators). The competitive environment can also make it difficult to start collaborations.

Advice to Management

Make it easier to create shared research resources.
