Pros

After working for 19 years for the company, there were many opportunities for great achievements with collaborations both inside and outside the company. The overall compensation and benefits were excellent, especially the tradition of sabbaticals.

Cons

After 19 years, I hit a ceiling in advancement and was unable to take a sabbatical. Also, the heavy push for diversity was very frustrating, especially when I, as a white male, was at times a minority within some teams.

There tended to be a reverse prejudice that may not have been intentional but was experienced multiple times during my final years with the company. There seemed to be a forced attrition rate for white males with multiple years at the company, as I experienced several individuals who were over 15 years at the company being impacted in various forms of restructuring.

Advice to Management

Enough of the diversity push. Hire the right talent based on their ability to perform, and not because of gender, race, or other matters less relevant to the task.
