Pros
  • Good pay and benefits (except dental coverage).
  • Smart engineers and technicians that care about quality.
  • Manufacturing processes and capabilities are world class.
  • Good work/life balance in many departments, generally supportive of single parent needs.
Cons

Improving URM (Under Represented Minorities) ratios is absolutely Job #1. All other company goals and strategies (including shareholder value) are way down the list. This impacts everything from promotions to hiring practices, to who gets laid off, to business unit performance expectations.

Support orgs like Corporate Services (facilities) and IT are a mess. The arrogance and hubris of the senior leadership in these two groups is stunning. Senior leaders act more like little dictators protecting their fiefdoms rather than coaches and mentors.

The HR Department is really the HR Legal Department. All HR policies and decisions are guided by what is legally defensible in court. The real goal/purpose of Intel HR is litigation avoidance, not "Human Resources".

Advice to Management
  • Stop hiring/promoting based on URM ratios. The CIO's recent promotion to COO is just shameful pandering to the PC police.
  • Apply focal (the annual employee performance process) to org unit leaders as well as individual contributors. Way too many terrible leaders that should have been walked out years ago.
