Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Singapore

Process

There were 3 rounds in total: 1 take-home assignment, 1 technical interview, and 1 behavioral (supposedly) interview.

For the take-home assignment, HR gave me 4.5 days to complete but requested my submission on the 3rd day. The technical interview was average, where they asked pretty standard technical questions. However, they did not bother to look through my assignment and chose to avoid talking about it. I made references to the project, and the interviewers quickly changed the subject.

They also quizzed me on frontend development skills, which were nowhere stated as required in the job description. The last round of the interview was supposedly behavioral, as HR informed me, but it turned out to be another technical interview. They asked the same technical questions, and I had to do similar LeetCode-style questions again.

Although the HR was responsive, the interviews were arranged in a rush. I have no idea to this day what the point of me completing the take-home assignment was. The interviewers were polite, but they seemed to have their own answers in mind before they asked any "what approach will you take?" kind of question and would not accept your answer unless it was what they wanted.

Questions

Q: Find unique words in an array of words containing anagrams. (They love anagrams, lol, repeated in both interviews).

Q: Find the angle between the hour hand and minute hand of a clock for a given time.

Q: What is GC and what are the types of GC used in the JVM?

Q: What does a HashMap do internally? (They love this too, repeated question).

Q: What does a ConcurrentHashMap do internally?

Q: What are fail-fast and fail-safe iterators?

Q: What would you do if your application has an out-of-memory exception? (Again, love this question, repeated).
