Software Engineer Co-Op Interview Experience - United States

Process

Applied July 29, 2019. Got an offer for their Hirevue interview a couple of days later.

Having never taken a Hirevue interview before, I spent a lot of time working on nailing different possible questions such as:

  • "What are your greatest strengths/weaknesses?"
  • "What is your biggest achievement in your career so far?"
  • "Tell us about your background and experience and why you would be a good fit for this role."

Upon starting the interview, there were only 8 questions in the process. The first 4 were simple multiple-choice questions regarding past programming experience in different languages. The next two questions were both technical problems. Each had a following question asking to record and describe your thought process of solving the problem on camera.

This was weird because there was no reference to the previous problem you were supposed to describe, so it was somewhat difficult putting together a complete answer without tripping up on trying to remember what you did in the first place.

Overall, I would have much rather had an in-person interview instead of a disconnected, impersonal online interview talking to a camera.
