Software Engineer Interview Experience - United States

Process

The interview process was messy and disorganized overall.

I applied to a Software Engineer position sometime in January 2021, and a recruiter reached out about a month and a half later to schedule a phone interview. About a day before the phone interview, I received an automated rejection email for the position I applied for. I was puzzled, so I skipped the phone interview I was going to have the next day due to the rejection I received. The recruiter then reached out a couple of days later about the phone interview, and I mentioned that I received a rejection, so I didn't attend the interview. She then clarified that they refreshed the openings and terminated the old one but had a new position open that was exactly the same. This was the first instance of miscommunication I received.

The phone screen went well, and I moved onto the virtual onsite. The scheduling for the virtual onsite was not very accommodating. They asked for an availability date but didn't ask for available hours during that specific date. Also, they swapped out my recruiting coordinator and recruiter mid-process!

The recruiting coordinator sent me a brief outline of the virtual onsite: 1 behavioral, 1 coding round, and 1 systems design. However, the virtual onsite didn't follow that format. It was more like 3 coding rounds, with 1 coding round being a half-hearted systems design where the interviewer was silent and gave no guidance, followed by a LeetCode.

I wouldn't recommend interviewing here as a Software Engineer.
