Got a call from a recruiter after applying through their career portal.
For me, it was a new area within the same domain, but domain knowledge was mentioned under "good to have," in addition to the required skill of Test Automation. Hence, I chose to apply thinking they might consider someone with good analytical, interpersonal, and technical skills for the role and might give a chance to someone who is sincerely willing to learn.
However, not a single question was asked on Test Automation.
Within 2 hours, I got a response from HR (which is good) that I was not selected. I didn't get any detailed feedback to understand what they were looking for in a candidate.
This only good thing in the entire process was HR's promptness to communicate feedback.
NOTE TO HR AND INTERVIEW PANEL: If you are only looking for domain knowledge, then don't list it as good to have; instead, list it as a mandatory skill. Also, don't waste the candidate's time and give them hope.
How confident are you switching to a completely new area within the same domain? What will you do to learn?
