If you are someone who enjoys working in areas that are high impact and want to learn new technologies or develop your career, JPMC is an amazing place to develop your skillset. This is especially true if you are someone who does not need too much handholding, because you will be able to deliver production code from day one. The only thing that limits you is your own motivation and interest to learn and grow.
I have to give this company the credit that it deserves in making me the full-fledged engineer that I am today by investing in and developing me. To be honest, the work-life balance at this company is really not that bad, and it really depends on you to manage yourself.
The compensation and perks are good and they are definitely competitive, depending on if you joined recently or not. A lot of experiences vary just based on your team, since they will be the people you interact with daily. Definitely don't blame the company if you get stuck in a bad team, because they do try and help you move around.
There are some issues with getting beyond the associate level, especially if you started your career there. Sometimes, having a bad manager or if you rub someone the wrong way can make it that much harder to get the next promotion level.
I really would like to see more accountability on managers of tech teams and really ensure that each scrum team maintains a proper balance between the developers, product, and the tech lead. Issues usually crop up when one of the three parties has too much control over the others. Please have a more holistic approach to giving promotions, as a lot of people get overlooked if their manager doesn't vouch for them personally or they are not the type to be vocal about their achievements.
