Pros

The job was stable; you knew what was expected of you from day to day. The workload was reasonable and could usually be completed in a 40-hour week. Once assigned a project, you were generally left to manage it on your own.

Cons

Worked on older technology, generally 2-3 generations behind.

Constantly bombarded by email about people and departments that you never interacted with.

Constant meetings that served little value.

Strict and often conflicting standards and policies imposed by various departments.

Very little chance for advancement as an individual contributor.

Training was not generally provided, and you would sometimes need to research new technologies on your own time.

Advice to Management

Greater attention needs to be paid to developing and promoting internal talent.

Processes need to be streamlined.

Do not require meetings on global corporate topics that have no impact on individual contributors.
