Pros

If it weren't for the benefits and PTO, I would have rated it as 3 stars. Flexible schedule within reason.

The employer lowered the premium for health insurance, making it much more affordable without compromising the quality of care.

PTO is very reasonable: at an exempt level, they offer:

  • 4 weeks paid vacation
  • 10 sick days
  • 3 personal days
  • 11 paid holidays
Cons

For new employees, many departments lack effective training and expect employees to "sink or swim".

Turnover can be a problem, creating capacity issues for employees who stick around.

Given the poor training and capacity issues, many employees leave or post out after their year is up.

Therefore, it is difficult to make improvements or implement better programs, as the focus is on getting new people up to speed and getting through testing.

Advice to Management

Management should be open to employees' feedback about the need for better onboarding and training programs or practices.

In addition, more emphasis should be focused on making enhancements and/or improvements to the department's job aids and processes.

When necessary updates are not made, you waste the valuable time of your testers, who could be partnering with LOB stakeholders to make better and more efficient testing.
