I joined despite the warnings from friends noting that this place is a "shift" environment. I didn't know what that meant and ultimately felt it wouldn't be a big deal. I just thought it would be like any typical DBA job.
What they don't tell you is that this place tracks your entire activity. You have virtually no privacy.
The standards are very high here, and this place is highly competitive. You are measured through a lot of dimensions, such as:
And you have to seek feedback to essentially justify your existence.
I felt my manager never had an idea what the team was doing. It didn't help that he wasn't even in the same office. There was always a disconnect.
The workload was just highly stressful and sometimes overbearing. What I hated the most was I felt the work was very unfulfilling.
You are very limited in the scope of work you do here compared to other places. A lot of people come here with a broad set of skills and essentially lose them because they don't get to use them.
As you can imagine, the environment is very locked down, and things, even internally, take forever to get done because there are so many approvals needed.
The on-call rotation here is just awful. What they don't tell you is that being on-call here is basically you working a full 8-hour shift the entire weekend. You're logged in remotely, and the whole activity tracking still applies because the desktop environment is completely virtual.
The team is burnt out and usually leaves for other internal teams as soon as they are eligible. Depending on the amount of coverage, expect to lose several of your weekends.
The interview consisted of about a 30-second phone call with a recruiter. The interview ended early because they have in-office mandates of 2 days per week. I work best from a full-time remote environment. For any interviewer reading this, please c
Long and slightly disorganized. Several changes in the follow-up interview scheduling occurred, which were usually at the last minute. The initial handoff from the headhunter was decent, but after that, it was not smooth.
My interview consisted of about a 30-second phone call with a recruiter. We cut the call short because the job required two days in the office, whereas I work best in a full-time remote environment.
