Pros

Intelligent people making good quality equipment.

Sales and support people care a lot about doing right by their customers and making long-lasting partnerships.

Internal conversations I've been a part of have only ever been about how to best serve our customers (even if some customers don't always agree).

Executive team has great vision.

Rami Rahim is well-liked and has been with the company almost since its founding (Jan 1997) and has been CEO since 2014.

Company performance has been consistent and decent over the years, with some solid improvements over the past 5 years and some really good momentum in the past 2 years.

In over 10 years, I have never not received a decent-sized bonus.

Middle management is overall pretty good, mostly proactive, and does a good job of supporting engineers. The few who haven't been good at being proactive are responsive once alerted.

The pay is fair and the benefits are good – never a fuss over taking time off.

I've known many people who have left the company seeking greener pastures, only to return to say it was greener at Juniper all along.

Cons

Nothing that stands out more than any other large engineering companies. A lot of the same pain points...

Some engineers who become managers take a long time to learn how to manage people. The sales side frequently reorganizes and can be quite political, so people get moved around a lot, especially in the enterprise and cloud side, which can be stressful. Not so much of that on service provider teams.

From time to time, we put a lot of resources into the next big thing, and nothing comes of it. That's just part of being in a competitive company that strives to stay ahead of the curve. We tend to hire externally too often when there are plenty of good people internally who could succeed in a role.

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work!
