The company is huge, so advancement and IC impact are slower/smaller than in a smaller company.
Maybe more training for newer Eng Managers, many of which were promoted from IC roles.
It may help to emphasize more of a 'people' perspective.
New hires can get overwhelmed with the complexity of systems and cross-team interactions. A tuned-in manager can provide context at the right time.
