Very straightforward.
First call with a recruiter. This was a standard overview of my past experience, with a few behavioral questions.
Second call with a hiring manager. He was the Director of Engineering. All the questions were standard for this stage, such as "Why Livongo?" and "What is your technology stack?"
One strange thing was that the hiring manager seemed to be discouraging me about this position. It is a new role on a team that reports directly to him. The total headcount was six, or was six, since one engineer is leaving and another was let go. They plan to grow the team, but not right now. For me, this was a clear red flag; something is going very wrong there. Ultimately, after our call, I sent an email stating that I am not interested in this position.
Bottom line, I do not recommend interviewing for the position of Software Engineering Manager - Backend. I do not think this position exists and am unsure why they wasted all this time and effort.
