I spoke with the recruiter, who was excited and gave a good impression at first. Then, an onsite interview with two hiring managers was arranged.
No talk of travel support or anything related was discussed, which should have been a red flag, but I ignored it. I have a strong background in Physics/Mechanical Systems and good industry experience as a data analyst. Based on the job description, this was an ideal role for me.
The onsite interview was cold. The hiring managers seemed uninterested in hiring for the role. Perhaps people skills were not part of the company's culture.
I received a generic email the next day from the 'once excited' recruiter saying they were going to pass. Despite probably establishing a connection and performing well, the least I expected was to at least receive some constructive feedback on what I could have improved upon.
In retrospect, I should have listened to all the Glassdoor reviews and skipped this company altogether. I wasted a week of my time preparing for their culture and history, and 45 minutes of one-way commute in peak San Francisco traffic.
