Perception Engineer Interview Experience - San Francisco, California

Process

There were two phone interviews followed by an onsite interview.

The phone interviews featured simple and medium algorithm questions, similar to those found in "Cracking the Coding Interview" (CTCI).

The second phone interview was quite challenging. I was asked two questions and performed well on both. I solved the first question well ahead of time, but in the second, I reached the end of the solution just as time ran out.

They may mislead candidates by stating they are only looking for coding skills. However, it seems they are actually looking for completely running code that passes all test cases, which is a very demanding and arguably inefficient metric. This approach appears to favor regurgitation over genuine problem-solving.

I was unsure why I didn't advance to the onsite interview, especially given the interviewer's positive demeanor.

Occasionally, one might encounter a particularly unhelpful interviewer who can negatively impact the outcome. I suspect I may have had such an interviewer for the second phone interview.
