Applications Support Engineer Interview Experience - Cambridge, United Kingdom

Process

I sent an email for very different positions. At the time of application, I didn't know the difference between an App Support Engineer and an App Engineer, but there's a lot.

In the App Support Engineer role, you will join the EDG group, taking care of your training during some months. This is like a first stage in the company for recent grads (either Master's or PhD).

This experience allows you to:

  • Learn about the company
  • Gain technical and soft skills
  • Get in contact with other groups

If there is a match between a group and you, then you move to that group.

The company called me about one week after the application. Then we proceeded with one call, and then a technical conversation (also by phone).

Questions

Some questions about my CV, to understand the depth I worked each language with:

What do you know about Mathworks? What do you know about the EDG?

Other technical, simple (some more than others) questions:

What is a queue and a stack? How many numbers can you codify with a signed 32-bit integer? Explain how to find duplicates in a list (the algorithm). Difference between Double, double, and DOUBLE. Difference between * and &.
