Lots of different product areas provide opportunities for technical growth and diversity. Mostly interesting work. Strong people in all areas of the company. Good benefits. Good work/life balance.
Can be easy to pigeon-hole oneself technically (especially with MATLAB). No remote work allowed. One too many levels of management, too many meetings. Micro-management of worker's time and tasks. Unclear vision with respect to web and open-source.
It seems that in 1992 or so, MathWorks must have looked at what it was doing, loved it, and "froze" this as the "company culture". The problem is that when these things are put into training and imposed top-down, they no longer count as culture but instead as company policy.
My advice is to benchmark these policies with modern, successful software companies and adjust them, dropping the pretense that things like "no remote work" is culture that we all embrace at the company.

A MathWorks submitted employee referral. Then the hiring manager called me and asked a few technical questions. It was followed by a programming challenge which I had two days to solve. It was a mildly difficult. Once I emailed the solution back, ano
Phone screen with HR representative was followed by phone screen with hiring manager and then was invited for an on-site interview. The interview was average difficulty. The process is very slow compared to other companies.
