Data Engineer Interview Experience

Process

The recruiter reached out. We set up a one-hour screening interview.

This was my second attempt at this position. Although I could solve all four SQL and four Python questions (passing all test cases) with little help from the interviewer, except for the last one where they had to give me an idea to solve it, I received an email the next day stating I didn't make it to the next round.

As they do not provide feedback after the interview, it is very difficult to judge what went wrong. My understanding is that even though you have the option to run the code and see the output, you should not do it until you are 100% sure your code will pass all test cases. Although the interviewer said you can run queries and see data, every run you make is counted against you.

I would suggest not putting your heart and soul into preparing for the interview. It's ultimately a human interacting with another human. Even if you perform well in the interview, many other factors can affect your candidacy.
