Process

I received an email from a Facebook recruiter stating that my resume looked impressive and that they wished to interview me. We scheduled a call, and I prepared for my interview. The recruiter called about half an hour after our scheduled time, which I found very rude and unprofessional. I know for sure that if I had arrived 30 minutes late for an interview, I would have had zero chance of getting the job. Yet, recruiters seem to get away with almost anything.

Besides the recruiter's unprofessional lateness, it did not sound like they were interested in talking to me. They seemed in a hurry to get somewhere. There was a significant amount of noise on their end, as if they were in a loud public place, and they were constantly distracted by others while speaking with me. It appeared they were not listening to what I had to say, so I had to repeat myself multiple times, struggling against the noise, which made it extremely difficult to concentrate on the interview. They asked about my background but did not give me a chance to highlight my experience. They kept bragging about how great it is to work for Facebook and how the stock is doing well, then they had to leave and cut me short. Why would I care about FB stock this early in the interview process?

The interview was very short and did not allow me the opportunity to present myself. I have a proven track record of highly visible, successful accomplishments and I know, without any doubt, that I can do the job with my eyes closed. However, that did not matter. The only thing that mattered was how the recruiter felt that day. They did not care about wasting a highly qualified candidate's time with a pointless interview.

About 12 hours after the interview, I received a rejection email from the recruiter, stating I was not a good fit for the role. Reality check: The recruiter was not qualified to interview me. If I were not a good fit, I would not have wasted my time applying for this role.

The hiring system is horribly broken, with incompetent recruiters hiding behind an application tracking system. From this experience, it sounds like Facebook prefers to hire people with zero talent over highly experienced professionals with a growth mindset. Worst interview ever.
