Process

I was phone-screened by a recruiter and quickly moved to on-site interviews.

I was flown out, landing at 11 PM in JFK, and traveled to the hotel in downtown New York for an all-day round starting at 10 AM the following day. I was to fly out a few hours after the interviews.

My interviewers were mostly from one type of role, limiting my range of questions and making it difficult to judge my own interest in the company. They seemed trained and had similar interviewing techniques, though some were more articulate than others. Often, the questions were extremely open-ended with little direction beyond the proposal, and I felt I had to read the room to move the conversation.

I did not receive an update for days after the expected feedback period until I emailed a check-in. The second update was not received until my referrer got involved, and I was then told I would receive a call the following week. The rejection email was sent at the end of the expected day instead of a call. I replied with a request for more detail on the feedback and have yet to receive a response.

I expected a level of professionalism, even if I was no longer considered a potential candidate, that I did not receive.

I was then billed for the hotel stay.
