Process

The interview process consisted of one phone screen with a recruiter and one technical phone screen with a manager. I worked at the director level in my previous job and have 15 years of experience managing very complex projects and people at highly technical companies. This experience left me with the impression that passing a Facebook interview is completely hit or miss. If you have an interviewer you can understand, then you might have a chance if you have the experience to do the job.

Questions

The recruiter asked pretty straightforward behavioral questions, rapid-fire. No kidding, it was like a 3-hour interview in 50 minutes. The recruiter's questions were all great for a manager-level interview: 'How did you handle this/that?'

Then he asked about a time when I should have done something better. I answered with a time when an employee's performance had dropped off, and I did not fire them sooner. He went on to spend 10 minutes of the interview lecturing me on how to handle low performers.

The next phone interview was with a manager in the organization that has the open position. This interviewer's accent was very thick. I work with people from all over the world with all kinds of accents, and I had to have him repeat questions two or three times just to understand what the question was generally about. I was only picking up every other word, which makes a phone interview extremely difficult.

I explained early in the interview that I had managed 40+ people in 5 different teams and some projects I did not technically work on myself, but if he had a technical question, I could go as deep as they wanted to go. He proceeded to ask me about a very specific project and immediately fixated on what the database sync rates were as I walked through this project that I managed.
