Software Engineer Intern Interview Experience - Belgium

Process

I applied online and posted my CV. I was called approximately two weeks later to schedule a phone interview. During the phone interview, I was asked:

  • Why Facebook?
  • Do you have a preference in which offices you would want to work? (I guess because I live in Belgium)
  • What are your favorite coding languages?
  • How many hours do you code besides school projects?

One week after the phone call, they set up a technical phone interview with a coding question. There was no response as it was the weekend, and the interview was on Friday.

Questions

A professor wants to see if two students have cheated when writing a paper. Design a function:

hasCheated(String s1, String s2, int N) that evaluates to true if two strings have a common substring of length N.

Additional question after implementation: Assume you don't have the possibility of using String.contains() and String.substring(). How would you implement this?

Questions about the complexity of my solution.

Overall, a very friendly interviewer was saying "Good" the entire time, but I have no idea if he wanted to keep me focused or if it was really good.

Was this helpful?
