Facebook recruiters visit my university each year to recruit talent. In November, a recruiter reached out to me to see if I would be interested in an opportunity at Facebook during the summer. I hadn't been looking for internships at the time, nor did I apply to Facebook, so I was pretty surprised by the message.
After I expressed interest, I had a phone screening with a recruiter, during which they asked me basic technical questions (a question about Java keywords; I can't remember the rest).
I did well enough to pass this stage and was then given the option to go for a phone interview or an on-campus interview. My recruiter mentioned that candidates usually perform better during on-campus interviews, so I was scheduled for one a month later.
My on-campus interview went really well, and the interviewer was nice and easy to talk to. That evening, I received a message from my recruiter informing me that I would have the opportunity to fly out to their main office for a final round interview.
I attended their "Intern Day," which was a day filled with:
My interview could have been better; I arrived at the correct answer, but I stumbled a bit along the way. I recognized my errors quickly and was able to correct myself throughout the process, which I believe was a plus.
The week after my interview, I was contacted about different internship positions available at Facebook. After considering the options, I received an offer for the SDE intern position about a week after that. The entire process spanned five months, but it was totally worth it!
