Process

My first call with the recruiter went well. After a few days, they informed me that I was invited for an onsite interview with a single interviewer, instead of a phone screen.

That interview also went well, and I was selected for the second "pirate interview." They provided ample material on what these interviews would entail and how to prepare.

Everything was progressing positively. I attended the second interviews and felt I performed very well. The only hitch was a lunch with an "interviewer." That lunch ran longer than expected, which unfortunately shortened the time I had available for my subsequent coding interview.

Regrettably, the lack of time impacted my performance in the coding interview, leading me to not be able to develop a good, working, and efficient program. This ultimately resulted in a "no go" for me. :-(

Questions

Design the Google search bar that prompts you with suggestions as you type.

These suggestions are not personalized but are based on the most popular queries by all Google users in the past. For example, as you type "Fac" in the search bar, the dropdown prompts you with "Facebook" or "Facts about Great Britain," and so on, based on recent most popular queries.

Once designed, optimize this based on feedback from the interviewer (e.g., most users don't see the suggestions within 3 seconds, and Google management is complaining about the lack of performance. How will you debug and fix it?)
