Process

I had two telephonic interviews, and the questions are below. Recruiters are pretty cool at Facebook.

  • General resume stuff.
  • Merge Sort: Write code for it and discuss its complexity.
  • SQL: Self-join. I was asked to write a query, but I don't remember the exact question.
  • Advantages of B-Trees: Used in databases for indexing. Advantages include fewer memory lookups due to less hierarchy and a large fanout.

Questions

Given a set of inputs <number, userid> in a log file:

Log: <number, userid>

Example:

1,2 1,1 2,1 3,1 1,2

Output: <number, count>

1,2 2,1 3,1

The output should show all unique numbers and their associated counts.
