Process

It's COVID times, so the process includes initial discussions, then a coding interview, and finally a virtual onsite over one or two days.

The coding challenge is conducted on a separate app, CoderPad.

They provided a lot of extra material to read. It was a bit strange, almost as if they wanted you to take time out to prepare for the SATs or GREs, which is unusual for a company as data-centric and analytical as Facebook.

That's how you get distorted dynamic data back.

You want to have normal conversations to assess how candidates are doing.

Questions

For instance, there was a basic coding challenge at the start. However, a point I'll make is that for a high-level company like FB, there was an odd obsession with basics. People don't work that way; it's not that basics are irrelevant—it's better to be solid than not—but they represent a tiny piece of the puzzle that gates prospective hires.

It was strange not to be asked questions that would indicate actual capacity to innovate, manage, etc. I would have only assigned that kind of challenge to a fresh graduate, not someone who has done real work.
