Software Engineer Interview Experience

Process

I applied for SWE positions but never heard back. A recruiter contacted me for a Data Engineer position because I had some relevant experience. Overall, it was a pretty bad experience.

  1. The recruiter didn't book the meeting room long enough, so she was kicked out and had to run around trying to find another room. At one point, she was panting because she had to go up so many stairs.

  2. She didn't have any technical background whatsoever, so she asked me to elaborate on everything and speak slowly so she could write it all down.

  3. She tested me with five questions but never mentioned it would be technical. Three questions were easy, and for the other two, I didn't know the technical term, though I had performed the tasks in my previous job.

  4. She spoke to me condescendingly because in my current role, I am a Software Engineer (backend), not a Data Engineer.

  5. She didn't offer to look up my old applications, saying she had no idea and couldn't find them in the system. "Old" in this context means applications submitted just two weeks prior for two positions.
