Applied online and received an email from a recruiter. The process was easy, efficient, and painless. The recruiters are really quick and will let you know the smallest of details regarding the interview.
Had a technical phone screen with an engineer from a similar team. I had to code on CollabEdit and was initially asked some OOP concepts and data structure questions.
The coding question was easy, and I solved it correctly, albeit with a few corrections. The code ran in O(n) time with no extra space, so I thought I did well. The question was to find if one string is one edit distance away from another string. This is similar to the minimum edit distance question but with a twist; in this case, you just want to know if it's one edit away or not. The interviewer asked if there was anything I could improve in the code. At that moment, I didn't think there could be any improvement other than some validation checks or code readability. After the call, I realized there was a small, five-line recursive solution, but alas.
Find if one string is "oneEditAway" from another string.
