Reality Labs is really messed up. The RL leadership hides info from the top brass. Managers and Directors have little accountability. The organization has no idea how to investigate a design and prepare product for launch. So much is wasted.
And because of the ridiculous compensation, the politics of survival among the leaders prevents any constructive improvement. Reality Labs is designed to fail slowly.
Replace 100% of your managers and directors outside of the research division. Reduce headcount by 75%. Then rehire from outside the tech industry. There is a horde of folks who are incompetent, but make sure their tribe gets hired to the next place. To break that cycle, people who are used to successful product launches every time must be brought in and made the majority.
