Facebook made a good effort, trying to give a complete experience to remote interns.
The team I was placed on was friendly and willing to help whenever I had issues.
I was given a project that I had 12 weeks to work on. At the end of the process, I submitted a body of work that was all my own and got to present it to various teams of engineers.
The responsibility of owning a project is challenging and rewarding.
Having ownership over a project can create a lot of stress, especially since the project is how you're evaluated for return offers. I found myself getting to network with my co-workers a lot more in the final days of my internship, after my project had already been finalized. Also, it would have been nice to have had an in-person experience.
Introductions, followed by two LeetCode easy/medium questions within 45 minutes. Time was also allocated for questions at the end. You're allowed to turn your camera off during the LeetCoding part. The interviewer was nice and provided hints. They
Easy initial screening call going over system administration basics, a follow-up coding interview with basic algorithmic and style questions, and then a production engineering focused interview going into system internals.
The process was pretty smooth and a good experience. There were several rounds, but the whole process was pretty long, lasting about 4 months. I did not make it to the final round, though.
