Pros
  • Pervasive focus on impact.
  • Plenty of opportunity to make an impact, as we ship to millions of users on a short cycle with very little red tape. We are not afraid to make mistakes, though of course we strongly prefer to avoid them.
  • Strong overall compensation.
  • Excellent on-site food options. I eat here at every opportunity.
  • Fun "work hard play hard" internal culture. Coworkers tend to be "from the Internet". Many lolz are had.
Cons
  • Now eating too many sweets because they're readily available.
  • Sometimes feel like I joined too late (e.g., hear Proposition 30 complaints from coworkers, doesn't apply to me).
  • Continued growth has decreased the small company feel somewhat.

Beginning to develop internal politics.

  • There is some tendency among some folks to prefer a quick hack instead of the Right Thing in the name of moving fast.
Advice to Management

We need to set expectations for new engineers that they will have to be comfortable reading and grepping our fast-moving codebase from day 1.
