Pros

Benefits:

  • So far FB has given 5 extra PTO-ish days off this year to help folks relax and recharge.
  • Thanksgiving week off last year.
  • Remote work for pretty much all employees (if desired).
  • Comp is high.

Actual Work:

  • FB has some amount of the bureaucracy you'd expect to find at a large company, but I think it is much better than other companies I have worked at. In my experience, you have a lot of autonomy in shaping what you work on and finding teams/projects that fit your career goals.
  • Reasonably efficient dev infrastructure makes a lot of my job pretty painless. That might be more contentious, as others have expressed they feel differently.
  • Working on stuff that is used by billions of people is interesting and satisfying.
Cons

Benefits:

  • A higher match (>4%) for the 401k would be nice.

Actual Work:

  • Some people dislike the bad press that the company gets. I personally don't care, but for some, I think it can be taxing.
  • It is a very growth-oriented company. In my opinion, this leads to a lot of tech debt and developer overhead for certain tasks. I cannot speak for everyone on this, however.
