Pros

Pros for my team

  • A manager who advocates for us to executives versus focusing on politics and self-promotion or ladder-climbing at our expense.
  • Capable, friendly coworkers and a cooperative, collaborative environment.
  • A manager who works to accommodate what you would prefer to work on, such as back-end or front-end.
  • You are given ownership over the apps that you work on and have a large say in the work.
  • The team is open to your ideas, including changes to processes and new tool adoption.

Pros for company

  • Pretty good benefits, including health insurance offerings, an employee stock purchase plan with a 15% price reduction, RSUs, PTO, paid paternity and maternity leave, and FMLA.
  • More visibility and accessibility to executives than some other companies, such as through town halls with Q&A.
Cons
  • Pointless rollback of long-term COVID-era WFH accommodations simply because the C-suite wanted to and could, despite their best profits ever.
  • Execs making broad decisions at too high of a level instead of allowing team leads to manage as they see fit.
  • Despite decent visibility and access to execs, it is still the same corporate-speak BS, and ultimately it is all about the money and the execs will do whatever they want.
  • Like all major businesses now, the focus is always on exponential quarterly growth with no long-term vision.
  • As a hardware company and not an SaaS company, their IT and Security teams do not have mature security enablement with proper exceptions that software developers typically need, which makes company laptops not very conducive to developing software. With the general approach just blocking everything and then taking requests for exceptions, which may not be granted, you are constantly fighting with your environment and changes to it, which is obnoxious when you just want to focus on the actual work and sometimes results in proceeding with worse solutions because they are the only way to work around it.
  • Roller-coaster waves of good times followed by mass layoffs.
  • Large effort by execs to push job positions overseas, with a massive focus and majority of resources given to the Hyderabad site.
Advice to Management

• Let all employees that don't absolutely have to be on site (e.g. in the fab) work from home! And not just work from home, but still locally-based, true remote work! • Give your lower-level managers more control over what their teams do, how they function, and what time-frames are realistic for the work being done. • Stop focusing on quarterly gains over the bigger picture. Stop being penny-wise and dollar dumb! • Stop moving everything overseas! The CHIPS act was meant to incentivize you to focus on making jobs here, not to free up your funds to build your new fab in Mexico. • Drop the corpo-bs pretense and just say what you really mean. We're all adults here and no one buys your fake pandering.
