Principal Software Engineer Interview Experience - Redmond, Washington

Process

I unfortunately had a very bad experience with more than one Microsoft recruiter. They all treated candidates in a very sloppy and irresponsible way. All other companies' recruiters have done their due diligence to complete some internal screening process, for example, getting the hiring manager to look at my qualifications before contacting me, except Microsoft.

They basically contacted me on a whim. I then tried to treat them responsibly by agreeing to set up a one-hour talk with them. One or two days later, without a solid reason, I received a rejection letter, not even having gone through a technical screen. In this case, I have a strong background and a very matching skillset for the job.

The funny thing is that my interviews are going well; I have already received a few onsite interviews from some top-notch companies. In another case, I honestly told the recruiter that some other Microsoft recruiters were pinging me for opportunities. At this early stage, of course, as a candidate, I would like to consider more than one team to test which one is a better match.

Out of those companies, which are way better than Microsoft, the recruiters have all taken a respective, tolerant attitude, trying to help me match with different teams if I showed interest, except Microsoft.

This recruiter, after spending one hour on the phone and a few rounds of emails, after knowing this, simply disappeared into thin air.

I will not waste my time on those terrible, terrible recruiters again. It's just a pure waste of my life!

Questions

Just normal stuff. During the talk, I could sense a lack of preparation regarding the candidate's material, like their resume. I guess they didn't even spend time to read it beforehand before chatting. It was just plain terrible!
