Process

Two rounds of phone screening. Simple questions asked:

  • Why do you want to work for Microsoft?
  • What is a class?
  • What is an object?
  • Provide an example of polymorphism.
  • Explain encapsulation.

Onsite in Seattle, WA. Five rounds with the Online Services Division.

First round: Questions included:

  • Why do you want to work for Microsoft?
  • What products/services from OSD (Online Services Division) do you know or have you used? The interviewer also shared more about the company and the services OSD provides.

Second round: Technical questions, such as:

  • Lists vs. Arrays
  • Finding a loop in a linked list
  • Binary Search Trees

Third round: Lunch with the interviewer. Discussed ideas for improving Microsoft's services. This was a light and easy part of the interview process and very friendly.

Fourth round: A more in-depth technical interview covering dynamic programming and data stream algorithms.

Fifth round: Interviewed by a manager. Topics included salary, start date, and relocation specifics.
