Several months later, I received an email for a phone interview.

The interview was about half an hour long. We mostly discussed previous projects of mine, and there were a few questions to pick my brain and hear my thought processes. The interviewer also asked about prior experience.

Pros: You'll find the best people working around yourself, which is the biggest motivation. Though it depends on the team, people are generally given the authority to take decisions. The recreational area is good, which includes TT, foosball, chess tables, and x-box with Kinect. People are co-operative and help you learn.

Cons: Though they have many projects going on, the pace of work is average. This is not to say that you won't get a lot of work; it's that you won't see your deliverables go live for a long time. There are good things to learn, but not many new things to learn. You can get similar opportunities at other places too.

Pros: The people are very friendly. Good work-life balance. Manager is transparent in what she is thinking. Microsoft is moving towards a better business model.

Cons: Big company problems: bureaucracy, slowness, inefficiency, and a lack of clear communication between groups. There are too many layers between development and release (e.g., Dev, QA, Business).
