Software Development Engineer In Test (SDET) Interview Experience - Seattle, Washington

Process

I handed my resume during a Kinect information session. About two weeks later, I received an email from Microsoft saying that a recruiter had recently reviewed my resume and they are very interested to speak with me to learn more about my personality and skills.

They sent me a timetable to fill in and asked me to complete a technical survey (like a quick test). The survey was okay, and for some questions I couldn't answer, I could search on the internet.

When the interview came, the interviewers asked me about my previous co-op experience and my job hunting so far. Then they asked two other questions:

  • How to test a keyboard.
  • A scenario: Let's say I'm the head of the Microsoft library. One day, Bill Gates phones me and asks if a book he wants is inside the library. I quickly check the computer, and it says the book is available. I pick up the phone and tell Mr. Gates that the book is in. He says he will be down in 10 minutes to pick it up. We hang up the phone, and I go to pick up the book. But the book is not there, and I can't find it. What would I do?
