I had a phone interview with an HR person first. He asked me a few simple behavioral questions and a bunch of technical questions.
I heard back from Microsoft after about a month, stating that I had cleared the phone interview and was invited to interview in Redmond, Seattle.
I underwent six rounds of technical interviews. I felt I performed well on all of them, except for the last one.
I heard back from them within a week. They informed me of my rejection but acknowledged that I had come very close to being hired.
