Software Development Engineer Interview Experience

Process

I applied online for a few positions. After three weeks of no response, I received an email from a recruiter. They informed me about a hiring event and suggested I apply for another position on a cloud team, which wasn't an exact fit for my profile. I did so and registered for the event. Subsequently, I received a link for an online tech screen.

The recruiter was scheduled to have a preliminary chat with me before the tech screen, but they never called at the appointed time and did not follow up. I proceeded with the test without instructions. It was a relatively easy assessment, and I finished it in half the allotted time.

I then emailed the recruiter to inquire about the next steps. They replied that their calendar was broken. This seemed unusual, and I wondered if it was an issue with Microsoft's calendar system. Shortly after, I received an automated reply stating that I had not passed the tech screen, which I found perplexing.

This experience marks my last attempt to engage with Microsoft. I will instead focus my efforts on preparing for opportunities at Google, as they have demonstrated professionalism, organization, and respect for candidates.

  2. Correct bug in the code that deletes the head from a linked list.

  3. Given a string of digits like "72388" and an integer n, delete n characters from the string such that the resulting string contains the minimal number representation. You must preserve the relative position of digits. For example, if st="72388" and n=2, the answer is "238".
