There are several interviews, but you must pass each one to advance to the next. The first interview focused on your background in software engineering. I did not pass this initial interview. They asked several questions about why I was interested in Microsoft, what I did in college, my preferred programming languages, and similar topics. They also presented a puzzle question and three coding challenges to complete within an hour outside of the interview.
